Gas Fire Pit Tips

GAS FIRE PIT

THE BASICS

Gas Fire Pit Basic Installation

TRAY SUPPORT/COLLAR

THIS SHOULD BE MADE FROM NON-COMBUSTIBLE MATERIALS, STURDY AND LEVEL WITH PLENTY OF DRAINAGE. ACCESS FOR MAINTENANCE IS MADE EASIER IF IT IS REMOVABLE. FIRE GLASS OR LAVA ROCK IS THEN PLACED OVER THE TOP, HIDING BOTH IT AND THE BURNER TRAY.

CAVITY

DO NOT FILL CAVITY. THIS WILL HELP PREVENT OVERHEATING AND ALSO ALLOW FOR EASY ACCESS DURING MAINTENANCE. VENTILATION DUCTS ALLOW EXCESS HEAT TO ESCAPE AND PREVENT A BUILD UP OF GAS IN THE EVENT OF A LEAK OR POOLING OF LP.

DRAINAGE

GOOD DRAINAGE IS IMPORTANT TO PROTECT BURNER KIT COMPONENTS FROM BECOMING SUBMERGED. PLACE A MESH CAGE OVER THE DRAIN HOLE TO PREVENT FROM BECOMING BLOCKED.

FIRE PIT STRUCTURE

BUILT WITH NON-COMBUSTIBLE MATERIALS. THERE SHOULD BE SUFFICIENT SPACE BETWEEN THE BURNER AND THE STRUCTURE TO PREVENT FLAME/HEAT DAMAGE. THE TRAY SHOULD BE RECESSED BELOW THE TOP OF THE FIRE PIT TO HELP PREVENT THE FLAME FROM BLOWING OUT.

GAS VALVE AND KEY

USE A NON-COMBUSTIBLE MATERIAL TO ISOLATE THE GAS VALVE KEY FROM THE INTERIOR OF THE STRUCTURE.

CROSS VENTILATION

MIN. 18" SQ. ON TWO OPPOSING WALLS.

GAS LINE FEED

INSTALL A GAS SHUT OFF VALVE OUTSIDE THE PERIMETER OF THE FIRE PIT FOR EMERGENCIES AND MAINTENANCE.

IMPORTANT DO'S AND DONT'S

CHECK WITH YOUR LOCAL AUTHORITIES BEFORE DESIGNING YOUR FIRE PIT. THERE MAY BE REGULATIONS IN PLACE REGARDING ITS LOCATION, DIMENSIONS, BUILDING MATERIALS AND PROXIMITY FROM STRUCTURES, TO MENTION A FEW. USE A CERTIFIED GAS FITTER TO CONNECT UP YOUR FIRE PIT. WHEN INSTALLING A GAS FEED TO THE FIRE PIT, PROPER PIPE SIZING OF THE LINES IS ESSENTIAL. WHEN BUYING YOUR GAS FIRE PIT KIT, SPECIFY WHETHER YOU WILL BE USING LIQUID PROPANE (LP) OR NATURAL GAS(NG) AS FUEL. LP REQUIRES A BURNER TRAY. THE LP BURNER KIT INCLUDES AN AIR MIXER THAT MIXES AIR WITH THE LP CREATING A GAS THAT WILL BURN CLEANER WITH A MORE EFFICIENT BURNING FLAME. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN SAFETY ISSUES, AS WELL AS THE DISCOLORATION OF YOUR FIRE PIT AND FIRE GLASS DUE TO SOOTING. . MAKE SURE FIRE MEDIA IS NOT BLOCKING ANY GAS OPENINGS OR VENTS. DO NOT PLACE AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF FIRE MEDIA ON TOP OF THE BURNER AS THIS MAY EFFECT PERFORMANCE AND GAS MAY BACK UP IN THE AIR MIXER CAUSING LP TO POOL UNDER THE FIRE PIT.
